Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Schliesmann Estates and its affiliated entities collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you visit our website at https://www.schliesmannestates.com or book a stay with us. The rental agreement provided after booking includes additional terms that govern your stay and is incorporated by reference into this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Name, address, phone number, and email address.

  • Payment information (handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers).

  • Guest count, including the number of adults and children.

  • Dietary needs, food preferences, and allergy information.

  • Pet count and relevant pet information.

  • Preferences and special requests for your stay.

  • Photos you submit in connection with the SE Squeaky Clean Guarantee or other service requests.

Information from booking platforms:

If you book through Airbnb, Vrbo, or another third-party booking platform, we receive booking and contact information from that platform under the platform's terms and privacy policy.

Identity verification information (direct bookings):

For direct bookings, we require identity verification through Authenticate.com. Authenticate.com collects and processes a copy of your government-issued photo identification and may use facial recognition or biometric matching to confirm your identity. Authenticate.com is the controller of this data and processes it under their own terms of service and privacy policy. We receive only the verification result and basic identity confirmation. We do not retain copies of your government-issued identification or biometric data on our systems. See Section 5 below for more detail.

Property condition documentation:

As described in the rental agreement, we may take date-stamped photographs and video of the rental property before and after each stay to document property condition. These images focus on the property and its furnishings and are used as evidence in damage claims, dispute resolution, or legal proceedings.

Automatically collected information:

When you use our website, we may automatically collect technical information including IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referring URL, and cookie data. This information is used for site functionality, analytics, and security.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and confirm your reservation, including identity verification and payment.

  • Provide the services, packages, and experiences you have booked.

  • Coordinate with our third-party service partners to deliver your package.

  • Communicate with you before, during, and after your stay (booking confirmations, check-in instructions, service updates, and post-stay follow-up).

  • Personalize your experience and meet our service obligations to you.

  • Handle damage claims, disputes, chargebacks, and legal proceedings.

  • Comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our agreements.

  • Improve our website, services, and operations.

  • Send marketing communications, where you have opted in or where permitted by law (you may opt out at any time).

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

We share your information with the following categories of recipients only as needed to operate our business and deliver your stay:

Booking and operations platforms.

  • Hostaway (property management system that handles reservations, guest communications, and operational coordination).

  • Airbnb, Vrbo, and other booking platforms (for bookings made through those platforms).

Payment processing and identity verification.

  • Stripe (or other PCI-compliant payment processor) for direct bookings.

  • Authenticate.com for identity verification on direct bookings.

Service partners delivering your experiences.

  • 5 Course Cuisine — private chef dinner services.

  • Trailhead Adventures — UTV and outdoor adventure experiences.

  • Northern Chick Photography — professional family photography sessions.

  • Cabin Country Services — concierge and property support services.

Each partner receives only the information necessary to perform their services and is required to protect your data under their own terms. The list of partners may change from time to time as our service offerings evolve.

Other recipients.

  • Professional advisors (attorneys, accountants, insurance providers) as needed to operate our business.

  • Law enforcement, regulators, or other parties when required by law, in response to legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Schliesmann Estates, our guests, or others.

  • A successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business. Your information would transfer subject to this Privacy Policy or its successor.

4. Payment Processing

For direct bookings, payments are processed in U.S. dollars (USD) through Stripe (or such other PCI-compliant payment processor as we may use from time to time). For platform bookings, payments are processed by the booking platform under its own terms. We do not store full credit card numbers. Card information is tokenized and stored by the payment processor. As described in the rental agreement, we retain the tokenized card credential for the duration of your stay and for ninety (90) days after checkout, solely for damage charges, late fees, or other authorized charges.

5. Identity Verification

For direct bookings made through our website, the primary booking guest is required to complete identity verification through Authenticate.com after booking and before check-in. Verification typically involves submitting a government-issued photo identification and may include facial recognition, biometric matching, or other verification methods used by the provider.

Authenticate.com is the controller of the identity verification data, including any biometric information collected during the verification process. Authenticate.com handles, stores, and deletes this data under its own terms of service and privacy policy. We recommend you review Authenticate.com's policies before completing verification.

We receive only the verification result (pass or fail) and basic identity confirmation. We do not retain copies of your government-issued identification or biometric data on our systems.

If you do not wish to complete identity verification, you may book through a third-party platform (such as Airbnb or Vrbo) that uses its own verification process, or your direct booking will be subject to cancellation under our Cancellation Policy.

6. Cookies and Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to enable site functionality, remember your preferences, analyze site usage, and support marketing efforts. The categories of cookies we use include:

  • Strictly necessary cookies that enable basic site functionality.

  • Functional cookies that remember your preferences and settings.

  • Analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) that help us understand how visitors use the site.

  • Marketing cookies that may be set by advertising partners (such as Meta and Google) to deliver relevant ads on other sites.

You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being used. Some site features may not function properly if you disable cookies. Where required by law, we will request your consent before placing non-essential cookies.

7. Marketing Communications

If you provide your email address or phone number, we may send you marketing communications about new properties, packages, seasonal experiences, or promotional offers. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us at support@schliesmannestates.com. We will continue to send transactional communications related to your booking (booking confirmations, check-in instructions, service updates, and similar) regardless of marketing preferences.

8. Children's Information

Our website and services are intended for adults aged twenty-five (25) and older (the minimum primary booking guest age). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under thirteen (13). Information about children traveling as part of a booking (such as guest count, ages, dietary needs, or photography releases) is provided by the parent or legal guardian making the booking. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information directly from a child under thirteen (13), please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Sensitive data such as payment information is handled via encrypted channels and trusted PCI-compliant payment processors. No method of electronic transmission or storage is one hundred percent secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, to comply with our legal obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. Typical retention periods include:

  • Booking and reservation records: seven (7) years from the date of your stay, for tax and accounting purposes.

  • Damage claim documentation (photos, repair estimates, correspondence): four (4) years from the date of the claim, consistent with the Wisconsin statute of limitations for property damage claims.

  • Marketing list contacts: until you opt out, after which we retain a record of your opt-out request.

  • Identity verification results: stored as part of your booking record under the periods above. Underlying ID and biometric data is retained and deleted by Authenticate.com under its own retention schedule.

We may retain information longer when required or permitted by law.

11. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you.

  • The right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.

  • The right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations.

  • The right to opt out of marketing communications.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

California Residents.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise your California rights, contact us at support@schliesmannestates.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

12. International Users

Schliesmann Estates is based in the United States, and our services are intended for guests in the United States. If you access our website or book a stay from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The Last Updated date at the top of this Policy reflects the most recent revision. We will post any changes on our website. Material changes will be communicated to you by email or other appropriate means where required by law. Your continued use of our website or services after the effective date of any update constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
